The Most Interesting Facts About CBD

We’ve talked a lot about the best CBD products, how to consume those products, and trends within the industry. We’ve also spent plenty of time debunking myths surrounding this all-natural plant extract.

But now, as 2019 comes to a close, CBD is notably mainstream, appearing in the headlines of every major news source in the country. In fact, if you search ‘CBD’ and read news from the last week, you’ll see that the Duchess of Cornwall was eager to talk about the apparent benefits of CBD, Runner’s World is touting next-gen CBD products for athletes, and Brazil is in the midst of a billion-dollar CBD boom.

It’s clear that, around the world, people are seeing CBD for what it is: an extract from hemp that people have found to be effective in minimising anxiety, aiding in sleep, and even reducing inflammation.

But, what else do we know about CBD?

Here are 4 interesting facts about CBD that you probably haven’t heard before

1. Hemp is one of the oldest crops in the world

Cannabis falls into two categories – hemp and marijuana. Hemp is the CBD-rich variant of the two and has been around for centuries. It’s been around for so long, in fact, that archaeologists have traced it back to the very emergence of agriculture, some 12,000 years ago.

Aside from CBD vape oil UKCBD flower buds, and other CBD products in the UK, hemp is used to make tonnes of commercial and industrial products, including rope, clothing, textiles, and even biofuel.

2. But, CBD oil and hemp oil UK are two different things

While it is easy to confuse CBD oil and hemp oil UK, they are two different products, with different uses, and different benefits. In short, the two oils come from different parts of the cannabis plant. While CBD uses the whole plant, including its stalks and flowers, hemp oil is produced just from the seeds.

3. There is no evidence of CBD exhibiting any abuse or dependence potential

In a 2017 report The World Health Organization (WHO), researchers found that ‘In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential….’. On top of that, the report went on to say that ‘…To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD’.

This is great news for anyone still wary about trying CBD based on its association with marijuana. To be clear, while CBD is a component of marijuana (one of the hundreds, actually…) it does not have the same psychoactive effects.
